Dr Vic Levi, an esteemed alumnus, graduated from the University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1973. He was a dedicated supporter, serving as a crucial link between the University and the broader community. Vic was a journalist for the Newcastle Sun for many years, and his extensive networks assisted the University in forging important links with donors, business and industry leaders, and community groups that support students and staff of the University.
Vic generously served the University community in numerous leadership roles for more than four decades. He sat on the University Council, was Warden of Convocation, was Chair of the Board of Governor’s International House and served as Vice President before becoming President of the Friends of the University – a role in which he served for 19 years. In recognition of his outstanding service to the University, he was awarded a Doctor of the University, Honoris Causa, in 2011.
I painted Vic's portrait in 2017 for our (Society of Artists Newcastle Inc.) annual portrait exhibition. My wife Chris worked with Vic at the Newcastle Herald so that's how I got to know him. I interviewed Vic and took a few photos leading to the painting's composition. We went out to Rocky Point (Eleebana) to his home after the exhibition and gave him the painting. – Bob Saxon, Artist
