DescriptionDr Victor (Vic) Levi
1937–2024
Dr. Vic Levi, an esteemed alumnus, graduated from the University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1973. He was a dedicated supporter, serving as a crucial link between the University and the broader community.
Vic was a journalist for the Newcastle Sun for many years, and his extensive networks assisted the University in forging important links with donors, business and industry leaders, and community groups that support students and staff of the University.
Vic generously served the University community in numerous leadership roles for more than four decades. He sat on the University Council, was Warden of Convocation, was Chair of the Board of Governor’s International House and served as Vice President before becoming President of the Friends of the University – a role in which he served for 19 years. In recognition of his outstanding service to the University, he was awarded a Doctor of the University,
Honoris Causa, in 2011.
A lot of the traits Vic came to display in his professional life were forged in sport. He saw it as a training ground for leadership and contributing to the community. A University Union Life Member and University Cricket Club President, Vic was heavily involved in many sports, especially cricket and played in the first-grade cricket team for 5 seasons. Ever a keen sportsman, Vic served as the Executive Officer of Hunter Dash for the 2000 Hunter Region Olympic Taskforce. He joined the board of the Hunter Academy of Sport in 1993 and was appointed Chairman in 2011. His passion for sport will be reflected daily in The Vic Levi Building, as students come together to study and collaborate.
